Frequently Asked Questions

How does the new GIA Cultured Pearl Classification Report differ from the existing GIA pearl reports?

The GIA Cultured Pearl Classification Report provides classification details for unmodified saltwater cultured pearls using the GIA 7 Pearl Value Factors (size, shape, color, luster, surface, nacre, and matching). It also includes a digital image of the submitted item(s). Known cultured pearls (Akoya, South Sea, and Tahitian) can be loose, mounted, or strung. Upon submission, clients must identify their pearls as untreated and cultured, and by pearl type. Limited testing is performed to confirm the stated mollusk type and color origin. This is a Classification Report only and is not intended for random testing. A comparison chart between the 3 types of GIA Pearl Reports is available for reference.
